Raising Awareness on Pedophilia through Street Plays

Last February, Children’s Rights in Goa organized over 20 street plays with the active participation of National Service Scheme (NSS) students from St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa. These events turned out to be quite a successful way of getting youth interested in spreading awareness on pedophilia and of making community people watch issues of a certain sensitivity with ease and encouraging them to talk about something that most often is “tough to talk about”. A lot of questions were asked by the audience and promises were made to report suspicious cases of pedophilia.

NOTE:
Children’s Rights in Goa (CRG)
is a SARI/Equity partner in Goa for combating sex tourism and pedophilia in the State. It is the first organization in India to attempt to build a coordinated community response to trafficking of children for tourism related pedophilia; focusing on this issue since October 2000. The organization plays a crucial role in enhancing community response as law enforcers to combat sex-tourism.
